Gemresearch Swisslab

The gemological research center GEMRESEARCH SWISSLAB (GRS) was founded in the city of Meggen in 1996 by Swiss geologist and gemologist Dr. Adolf Peretti.
Since then, GRS has gained a strong position of a reputable laboratory in the international market for gemmological services.

Gemological services in the GRS list of work include diagnostics of jewelry stone, nature of origin, methods of refining, identification of a region of origin is provided for a number of jewelry stones, and also characterizes the belonging of some jewelry stones to higher quality groups such as: “PIGEON BLOOD” and “SCARLET” for rubies, “ROYAL BLUE” and “CORNFLOWER” for sapphires, “OLD MINE / MUZO GREEN APPENDIX” for emeralds, “SUNRISE” and “SUNSET” for padparagi, “HONEY-COLOR” for chrysoberyl, “PARAIBA-COLOR” and “ NEON-COLOR "for tourmaline elbait.

GRS is headquartered in Switzerland, in the city of Meggen.
Subsidiaries are located in China (Hong Kong), USA (New York), Thailand (Bangkok), France (Paris), Sri Lanka (Colombo).

GRS gemological reports

The gemological reports issued by the certification laboratories of GRS Gemresearch Swisslab AG are among the most authoritative accompanying documents for commercial transactions with jewelry of the highest category.

The external design of gemological reports, “GRS Gemresearch Swisslab AG” is unified and differs only in nuances determined by the properties of the jewelry stone.

All gemological reports have the following information blocks:

  • A unique number that consists of 10 or 11 numeric characters.
  • Date, in the format - number (numeric characters), month (alphabetic characters), year (numeric characters). The report date reflects the day the stone arrived at the laboratory for the study.
  • A brief description indicating the type of object of study.
  • The definition of jewelry stones in accordance with the results of research, namely, an indication of the mineral species or variety, the nature of its origin and the presence of ennobling (if such was the case).
  • Full-color image of the subject of expertise.
  • The weight of the stone or the total weight of the stones in case of batch certification.
  • The linear dimensions of the stone.
  • The shape of the cut, determined by the girdle contour.
  • Type of cut.
  • The color of the jewelry stone, described on the basis of the definition of the spectral hue of the stone. For the highest quality stones, the color is characterized according to the GRS color classification.
  • Comments, including a description of the refinement and its degree, and if it is impossible to determine the cause of difficulties, the comments also indicate the limitations and tolerances for measuring linear dimensions and calculating the weight of jewelry stones installed in the product. The comments indicate information on additional research methods used in the preparation of this report.
  • For a number of jewelry stones, expert opinion on the geographic region of stone mining is indicated.
  • QR code with a link to the report confirmation page.
  • The back side of the report provides information on the main conditions and restrictions that are an integral part of the contract for the provision of services, as well as information on methods of refining and diagnostics.
