What is Akoya pearl?

Akoya is a type of marine cultured pearl. Initially, cultured pearl-free pearls were called “akoya,” later all cultured pearls grown in the mollusk Pinctada fucata and its hybrids (in Japanese “阿古 屋 貝” - Akoya-kai) became known as Akoya. Historically, the term "Akoya" has also been used for natural pearls extracted from shells of the mollusk Pinctada fucata. Pearls of this type have a size from 2 to 11 mm, have a dense pearlescent layer with a bright shine. For the first time, this type of pearl was launched by Mikimoto Kokichi (Japanese: 御木 本 幸 吉 Mikimoto Ko: Kiti). Now Akoya pearls are the most popular variety of marine cultured pearls.

Currently, gemstones are produced by two fundamentally different technological methods - the High Pressure - High Temperature method (“HPHT”, High-pressure & High-temperature) and the Chemical Vapor Deposition (“CVD”, Chemical vapor deposition) method. The "HPHT" method is the most tested classical synthesis method, which can be used both carbon deposition on diamond from flux melts and catalytic reactions. In "CVD" synthesis, diamond growth occurs on a seed during carbon deposition mainly from a gaseous medium at relatively low temperatures and pressures.

Sogdianite is a rather rare mineral and more often it can be found as a collection material (moreover, in systematic collections), and it is extremely rare in jewelry.
