History of stone mosaics (part 2)

Intricate mosaic techniques for decorating jewelry, which are widespread in our time, reached their greatest heyday in the 19th century on the wave of popularity of eclecticism and historicism. The most ancient mosaics used are inlaid patterns with colored stones in jewelry. Inlays using colored stones and glasses are known from pre-antique archaeological sites in Egypt, Asia Minor and India. So, in the form of preserved monuments, the most famous are inlaid masks of sarcophagi and breast shields of the mummies of Ramses II and Tutankhamun, as well as jewelry. They use colored stones inlaid to create individual color spots and patterns, along with varnishes and colored ceramics. Inlaid with colored stones was used not only in the manufacture of ritual objects, jewelry and decorative and applied arts, but also in the creation of ornaments on furniture, sculptures and architectural details. Later, the art of inlay grew into the art of composing mosaic works, which were not just part of the decorative design, but carried an independent plot and semantic load. The art of inlay did not disappear into oblivion with the appearance of mosaics and micromosaics, but continued to develop, leaving many masterpieces in Europe, India and China by the time of the late Middle Ages. In connection with the development of industrial technologies at the end of the 19th and in the first half of the 20th centuries, the techniques of inlaying with colored stones and making mosaics from stone reached a truly virtuoso level.

Currently, gemstones are produced by two fundamentally different technological methods - the High Pressure - High Temperature method (“HPHT”, High-pressure & High-temperature) and the Chemical Vapor Deposition (“CVD”, Chemical vapor deposition) method. The "HPHT" method is the most tested classical synthesis method, which can be used both carbon deposition on diamond from flux melts and catalytic reactions. In "CVD" synthesis, diamond growth occurs on a seed during carbon deposition mainly from a gaseous medium at relatively low temperatures and pressures.

Jewelry and precious stones are just such a category of goods, when buying which you need to pay attention to many criteria.

Sogdianite is a rather rare mineral and more often it can be found as a collection material (moreover, in systematic collections), and it is extremely rare in jewelry.
