Desert Rose. Sand flowers
Surprisingly, in the desert you can also find flowers. However, these flowers are not simple. They consist of gypsum and sand and have hard, sharp “petals”. Such desert flowers are called "desert rose" and are purely mineralogical, they are one of the morphological varieties of gypsum. However, the main raw material for the formation of such desert flowers is sand. The sand does not fit all, but only that which is saturated with gypsum. The process of forming "desert roses" is quite simple and consists in the evaporation of precipitation from sand, after which crystalline gypsum takes a shape similar to a flower. Sometimes on the surface under the influence of wind and sulfates, the morphology of gypsum roses can change.
The color of gypsum roses can be quite diverse, it all depends on the color scheme of sand, where they are formed. Mostly brown and beige tones prevail, but there are also black (Argentina) and white (Tunisia).
Because of their fragility, "desert roses" are used mainly for the purpose of collecting. Only sometimes can they be found in jewelry.
