Heavenly jewels

We all think that precious stones come to us from the bowels of the Earth. However, this is not quite true. Among the jewelry stones there are those that fall into the hands of a person from the sky. An example of such a stone is chrysolite, which is a gem variety of olivine. Chrysolites of gem quality, mined from iron-stone meteorites, are otherwise called palassites. They are often used as jewelry inserts. Such stones are very rare and are much more expensive than ordinary olivines mined from ultrabasic rocks, and large samples of “heavenly” olivine are quite rare. Meteorite chrysolites differ from terrestrial ones in increased nickel content, composition and morphology of mineral inclusions, which makes it possible to unambiguously identify them by modern analytical methods.
Gemstones, the formation of which are directly related to meteorites, also include tektites - natural glasses of impact origin. The most famous are tektites from the Carpathian Tatra region, the so-called Moldavites and Vltavites. These glasses are quite transparent and have a green color reminiscent of the color of chrysolite. Their visual appeal has made them an inexpensive but popular jewelry material.

Currently, gemstones are produced by two fundamentally different technological methods - the High Pressure - High Temperature method (“HPHT”, High-pressure & High-temperature) and the Chemical Vapor Deposition (“CVD”, Chemical vapor deposition) method. The "HPHT" method is the most tested classical synthesis method, which can be used both carbon deposition on diamond from flux melts and catalytic reactions. In "CVD" synthesis, diamond growth occurs on a seed during carbon deposition mainly from a gaseous medium at relatively low temperatures and pressures.

Jewelry and precious stones are just such a category of goods, when buying which you need to pay attention to many criteria.

Sogdianite is a rather rare mineral and more often it can be found as a collection material (moreover, in systematic collections), and it is extremely rare in jewelry.
