Titanite. What's interesting about it?

Another of the most beautiful cut stones is titanite (aka sphene). Like many of the gemstones we have already described, it is not very popular in the jewelry market due to its low hardness. Titanite ranges in color from reddish-brown and pink, through orange, yellow and yellow-green to emerald green. The optical indices of sphene contribute to the bright play of light in its faceted samples - its light dispersion is 0.051, while that of diamond is 0.044, and the refractive indices vary from 1.843 to 2.110. Recently, titanite can be found not only in the form of collectible cut stones, but also as inserts in jewelry. The most common types of titanite in the cut are yellow and yellow-green, showing bright dispersion of light. However, the more rare emerald-green chromium-containing varieties of this mineral look no less impressive. The bulk of the collection material and jewelry raw materials of sphene comes from postmagmatic hydrothermal veins and veins of the "alpine type", but rocks of magmatic origin are also found. They are often inferior to their hydrothermal "brothers" in the variety of colors and suitability for cutting. But, despite this, they are a popular collection material with high decorative properties.

Currently, gemstones are produced by two fundamentally different technological methods - the High Pressure - High Temperature method (“HPHT”, High-pressure & High-temperature) and the Chemical Vapor Deposition (“CVD”, Chemical vapor deposition) method. The "HPHT" method is the most tested classical synthesis method, which can be used both carbon deposition on diamond from flux melts and catalytic reactions. In "CVD" synthesis, diamond growth occurs on a seed during carbon deposition mainly from a gaseous medium at relatively low temperatures and pressures.

Jewelry and precious stones are just such a category of goods, when buying which you need to pay attention to many criteria.

Sogdianite is a rather rare mineral and more often it can be found as a collection material (moreover, in systematic collections), and it is extremely rare in jewelry.
